John’s Next Chapter

Feb 1, 2022 | Mission Moments

Life is full of unexpected twists and turns, and sometimes, we encounter circumstances that require us to reinvent ourselves. John is no stranger to this scenario. He had worked as a truck driver for more than 20 years when he began using a wheelchair and needed to find a different career.

At a crossroads, John tried to find other employment that would be fulfilling. John is very self-sufficient and wanted to maintain his independence. He started with a position as a Walmart greeter. After he had been doing that for a while, he shifted gears and worked the cash register.

While John enjoyed being back in the workforce, he knew that wasn’t his “forever” job. He left Walmart and started searching for something more meaningful.

When he connected with Tangram’s Employment Services, and his Employment Consultant, Sherif Cobb, he had been looking for another opportunity for a couple of years. Sherif approached a manager at Goodwill after learning more about John’s skills and his wishes for employment. John worked on a trial basis at the cash register for a couple of weeks and was quickly hired on permanently.

“I know this is the place for him. The managers speak highly of him and he has great customer service. He loves to work the register because he gets to meet people and I know he loves his job,” Sherif said.
